Sometimes I'm asked by young grade school/ high school artist what they should do to start their art careers. I always say something about art college is a good idea but depending on what you want to do career-wise not necessary. I went to a College for Creative Studies and got my
bachelor in arts. Today
I work alongside amazing artist at Cartoon Network who have gone to college or haven't at all. You would never know the difference and it doesn't matter. Anyways thats all a long story. If anyone is interested I can write more about art school and my path from highschool to now.
Particularly young artist want to know what they should do to start their career as an artist. My answer: The internet! Post your work online and follow other artist. I know I don't need to tell you all since you're already on DA. Think about creating a tumblr that is strictly your art (No reblogging unrelated things.) Put your name out there. I have a Linkedin, Dribbble, Blogspot...and more.
Make an online portfolio of your best work. I have one here: kassandraheller.com
Someone's reply to me when I told them to post their work online was that they don't get many "likes" or views. I understand...I don't get many likes or views either unless it's fanart. But...don't get discouraged. Keep posting. Keep talking to other artist. Keep drawing.
And draw hands! Pages and pages of hands and feet.
